William IV Mahogany Antique Bookcase Cupboard – Charles C Gray 1848
This Rare William IV Mahogany Antique Bookcase Cupboard dates from ca. 1840 and is signed and dated on the back Charles C Gray 1848. Possibly private secretary to Prince Albert and later Queen Victoria please see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Grey_(British_Army_officer)
The cabinet is of nice smaller proportions, has a moulded cornice above four cupboard doors with brass grill-work and material backing. The upper interior has two adjustable shelves and the lower has one fixed. The piece has a frieze drawer, stands on a plain plinth and has beautiful scrolled and pilaster sides. It splits into two sections for ease of removal, has lovely charm and character and has aged to a warm Mahogany shade with a striking grain, good patina, is in very good condition and has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing.
